March 24th. Birthday of Steve McQueen. Sadly he died in 1980 aged just 50. One of the most iconic film stars of all time. He made some of the coolest films and here are a selection to celebrate what would have been his birthday.:

The Blob (1958).

Cracking sci-fi film. Alien lifeform that grows and grows as it eats everything in its path. The last time Steven McQueen would billed, he was Steve from this film on.

Just two short years and Steve went from scared teenager (even though he was almost thirty) to fully fledged film star.

The Magnificent Seven (1960)

A remake of Kurasawa’s Seven Samurai, a brilliant re-working with an astonishingly memorable theme tune and an amazing group of actors (including two that have been relegated to trivia questions, Brad Dexter and Horst Buchholtz). One of the greatest ever westerns, I would have it in my top ten westerns of all time alongside – The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Lawman, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Open Range, Once Upon A Time in the West, The Wild Bunch, The Professionals, They Dies With Their Boots On, Unforgiven, (with a special mention for A Big Hand For The Little Lady).

The Great Escape (1963)

Surely one of the most watched films of all time. Similar to The Magnificent Seven, stick an amazing cast together and the audience will root for at least one of their favourites. Three of the Mag Seven (McQueen, Bronson, Coburn) re-united. One of the all time great chase scenes with Steve on his motorbike. Awesome.
