The great Fred Ward has a birthday today, he is 72 . A much underrated actor he has improved so many films. The Right Stuff, Tremors, Miami Blues, The Player, Escape From Alcatraz, Short Cuts, Bob Roberts, Henry and June, Silkwood, Southern Comfort, Remo:Unarmed and Dangerous to name but a few.
I once had lunch with Fred in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s restaurant in Santa Monica. He was great company and regaled us with tales of taking mescaline and ending up in Alaska working in a canning factory. No airs and graces just a top, top bloke.
He should get more roles in big movies. He’s a diamond.
